Laws of Car Cricket – New Book Released!
Fun Around the Corner With New Twist on a Family Favourite.
HARRISDALE, WA - 26 October, 2025
Australian author Will Braid has compiled "The Comprehensive Guide" to the Laws of Car Cricket, a traveling family’s favourite in a fun little book or ebook ready for the summer.
With the 2025/26 Ashes test between series between Australia and England nearly upon us and the holiday period coming up, many Australians will be travelling to and from venues all over the country or further afield to see family and friends over the break.
These journeys can be long, hot, cramped and sometimes tedious but former Tasmanian List A Women’s umpire Will Braid has helped with the release of the the "Laws of Car Cricket” in print and ebook form.
“For those who might not have played before, the nuts and bolts is every vehicle you meet on your trip is assigned a value,” Braid said.
“For example, a car (sedan/wagon etc) is worth one run to the batter’s score. A ute or van is worth two, a truck is four and an emergency vehicle with its light on (they must be on) is worth six.
“But beware, a red car is out!”
Written in a fun, adapted style of the MCC Laws of Cricket with the foreward delivered by former ICC Test Umpire Paul “Blocker” Wilson, this book contains all the rules for a fair game that is fun and can create a great atmosphere in the car.
“It came about after a trip I had to Hobart with my eldest son, we were playing on the way home and met a State Emergency Services (SES) vehicle with its lights on and debated if this was indeed worth six runs as some incarnations of the game would only allow six for vehicles where 000 is called,” Braid said.
“But ‘emergency’ is in the name and I’m pretty sure the SES carry the jaws of life so we decided they should be recognised with the maximum score.
A portion of profit from the sale of each book and ebook will be donated to a sporting charity to be determined with a view to supporting underage athletes with the cost of participation at representative level.
